Career Guidance

Choosing Your Path

  • Match your strengths to growing fields — IT, healthcare, logistics and skilled trades are hiring across Tamil Nadu.
  • Government exams (TNPSC, SSC, Banking) reward consistent daily preparation over cramming.
  • Apprenticeships and ITI trades offer faster, debt-free routes to stable income than many degrees.
  • Talk to seniors in our community working in your target field — use the Companies page to find them.

Upskilling That Pays

  • Free certifications: SWAYAM/NPTEL, Google Career Certificates, and Tamil Nadu's Naan Mudhalvan platform.
  • For IT roles: learn one language deeply (Python or JavaScript), then build 2–3 real projects you can demo.
  • For non-IT roles: Excel, Tally, spoken English and a two-wheeler licence widen your options dramatically.
  • Add every certification to your career profile — our recommendation engine matches on skills.

Job Search Strategy

  • Apply early — jobs receive most applications in the first 3 days. Enable job alerts on your profile.
  • Tailor your headline and skills to each role. Recruiters search by keywords.
  • Follow up politely one week after applying. Persistence is remembered.
  • Premium members get priority placement with employers — use it on roles you really want.

Interview Preparation

The five questions you will almost certainly be asked — and how to answer them.

1Tell me about yourself.

Keep it to 90 seconds: present (current role/study), past (one relevant achievement), future (why this job). Practise it aloud in Tamil and English.

2What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Pick a strength with a short proof story. For weakness, name a real one plus what you're doing about it — never say 'perfectionist'.

3Why should we hire you?

Connect your top two skills directly to the job description's needs. End with enthusiasm for the company specifically.

4What salary do you expect?

Research the range first (ask peers, check our job listings). Give a range, not a number, and say you're flexible for the right role.

5Do you have any questions for us?

Always ask two: one about the team or growth path, one about what success looks like in 6 months. It shows seriousness.

Practice tip: Record yourself answering on your phone. Watch once for content, once for body language. Three rounds of this beats ten silent readings.

Résumé Tips

Make the 30-second first impression count.

  • One page for under 10 years' experience. Recruiters spend ~30 seconds on first review.
  • Start bullets with action verbs: built, managed, reduced, trained — and add numbers wherever possible.
  • Use a clean ATS-friendly format — no tables, photos in the content area, or fancy graphics. Our Résumé Builder handles this for you.
  • List skills exactly as job posts phrase them (e.g. 'MS Excel', not 'computer knowledge').
  • Save as PDF with a professional filename: name-role-resume.pdf.
  • Proofread twice. A single spelling mistake can cost an interview call.
